For example, you may add 10 pounds of dried rosemary to two gallons of 95% ethanol. Allow the mixture to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes. Afterward, remove the plant material and mix it thoroughly with the solvent. 

You should then filter out the plant residue and transfer the liquid solution into a clean jar or bottle. You’ll often see these labeled as “extracts” instead of “tinctures.” Once your tincture is complete, you can store it in your refrigerator or pantry for several months. You can also freeze it for longer storage times. 

Now that you know how to make and use tinctures, how do you determine whether or not it’s right for you? Well, you really just need to decide which kind of treatment you’re looking to provide yourself. For example, if you’re dealing with pain, inflammation, muscle spasms, or insomnia, you’ll want to consider a topical tincture. 

This means that you’ll either rub the tincture directly onto your skin or place it under your tongue. Alternatively, you could purchase a CBD oil, which is a concentrated form of CBD that can be used topically or ingested orally.
